To The Mandela Family and All World Soccer Fans Too....
We have been a tiny speck in the ocean of life this past year.
Project SOAR began in a conversation with a six year old
in the Middle of America.
A Silly Litle Monkey named Fred
has now traveled the planet bringing smiles
laughter and even tears
in hope
to find peace on planet earth.
Just today, a note came from Sandra Cecelski
and her Honors Oceanography Class at a high school in North Carolina......
The kids had just sent 15 pounds of plastic bottle caps to
THE STUDENTS OF MUIZENBURG HIGH SCHOOL
IN SOUTH AFRICA...........
A Whale Tail inspired by students, once again, in Ohio,
is being made of the caps from children all around the earth.
As I recall, the inspiration came by way of a tiny not for profit called
Pals of the Pacific.
POP was created in honor of my Grandfather,
Walter Hirschi, a son of a Swiss immigrant.
A Peace Loving Swiss Man who instilled in me a sense of caring
about all life.
I never heard my Grandfather, Pop, raise his voice to any human.
Okay, once he got really mad at me for shooting a duck out of season.......
And so, I became a biologist and now get to be
Poppa Kapuna (Grandpa to kids around the world), simply because
I have no grandchildren of my own.........sort of.......
And then, I heard on The Mountain (103.7 FM, Seattle) the earth saddening news.
Nelson Mandela's GreatGrandDaughter, Zenani
was killed in an accident.........
We offer our silent and deepest thoughts to you Nelson.
May you always know that the world
remembers your suffering for all people, black, white and in between.
I can not help but believe that Mexico and Your Country
competed in full honor today as they
truthfully reconciled a 1-1 tie.......
I ask all children on earth to send Nelson their best
and please, as well, send the students of Muizenburg, S.A.
